Still Seeking...

...two more hostesses!  Katie Poulsen has volunteered to host our September meeting and has chosen "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.  We still need a hostess for October (mystery/thriller genre) and November (Young Adult Literature genre).  Even if you have no idea what to recommend in those two genres, if you're willing to take a look at Barnes & Noble (or any other site that divides books into genres) and pick a book we would be grateful!  You can also take a look at the links to book club ideas and reading lists on the previous post or ask you local librarian.

I'll post the schedule, book titles and descriptions, and hostesses as soon as I have them all.  Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Book Club!

Hi everyone!  We're trying out a new approach to book club in the hopes that we can all be up to date on the books that are chosen and that we can have a variety of books and genres to read.  I'm hoping that we can schedule our meetings out at least three months.  That way, we will have plenty of time to put books on hold and get them read before our meetings.  Also, I'm going to open up our scheduling options a little bit so that those who are not able to attend on Thursday nights may also have the chance to attend once in a while.

Also, when you are the host/book chooser could we try something new and see how it goes?  Could you please submit a book title and description to the blog?  Also, if you will be prepared on the night that you are hosting with a brief background on the author (info from the back of the book is just fine), a list of other books by the same author (if applicable), and some specific discussion questions, that will help us to benefit from what we have read and we will be able to do what book clubs do - discuss our books!

So, the first hour of our meetings can be for snacking, visiting, and announcing next month's book and the second hour or so can be for book discussion.  That way, those who haven't finished the book can still come and enjoy themselves and hear about the new book, but they can leave if they don't want the ending to be spoiled or stay if they don't care!

Leave a comment and let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions.  Also, be sure to invite new people in the ward when you see them!  I will post a list of genres for each month so that you can sign up for whatever sounds good to you.
